Inner weather: learning from depression

My latest book is something of a ‘coming out’ for me. It tells the story of my lifelong struggle to come to terms with depression, not by focusing on its causes but by understanding how best to fight it.

There are lots of depression memoirs. What I’ve tried to do in this book is to tell the story of what happened to me in as straightforward a way as I can, but also (and I think this is very important) to describe how (with a lot of help from others) I have, over many years, been able to learn to manage my depression. Although every experience of mental illness is different, I’m hoping that others (especially other women) will be able to take something from my account of what worked for me and what didn’t. That’s why I’ve called Inner weather a self-seeing book, as well as a self-help book.

You can read an extract from the book here. And the whole book is available from bookshops and also from Hybrid publishers www.hybridpublishers.com.au.
